I’ve lived in DuPage County my entire life, and Westmont has been my home since I bought my first house here after graduating from Elmhurst University. My roots in this community run deep, and my commitment to its success is personal. Serving our community has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and together, we’ve made tremendous strides in making Westmont an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

After earning a master’s degree in public administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology, I had the privilege of diving into local government—an experience that has shaped my career and my passion for public service. I’m the Vice President of Sales for SAFEbuilt, LLC, where I work with municipalities across the country to help them pinpoint areas needing improvement and provide tailored solutions. This role has given me a unique perspective on how to bring about meaningful change, and it’s a perspective I’ve brought with me to the Village Board.

I’m blessed to share my life with my wonderful wife, Corinne, and our dog Louie. We’ve been married for 10 years, and Westmont is where we’ve chosen to build our life together.

As a current Village Trustee, I’ve worked hard to deliver tangible results that improve our community. From leading the charge to get our Fire Department the highest accreditation in the country to securing significant grant funds for infrastructure improvements, I’ve been dedicated to making Westmont a better place for all of us.

Looking ahead, I’m more motivated than ever to continue this work as your Mayor. I’m committed to building on the progress we’ve made and tackling the challenges that lie ahead with the same passion and dedication that has guided me throughout my career in public service. Together, we can achieve even more for Westmont, and I humbly ask for your support in this next chapter.

Steve Nero has a proven track record of leadership that has directly benefited Westmont Village. Here are just a few of the accomplishments under his tenure as a Village Trustee:

  • Public Safety Leadership

    Under Steve's leadership as Public Safety Committee Chair, the Westmont Fire Department achieved the highest accreditation in the United States (ISO 1). He has ensured our first responders have the support and equipment they need to perform their jobs safely and effectively.

  • Stormwater Management

    As a member of the DuPage County Stormwater Committee, Steve has successfully secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funds for Westmont, directly improving our village's infrastructure.

  • Economic Development

    Steve has spearheaded numerous large-scale developments, bringing thousands of new jobs to Westmont and significantly improving property values. Projects like Mariano’s, Amazon, BMW, Natatorium, LA Fitness, Quincy Station, and many others stand as a testament to his commitment to economic growth.

  • Enhanced Westmont’s Purchasing Power

    By leveraging relationships and intergovernmental agreements the village continues to do more with less. A few examples are the DuPage County fuel coop program, our fleet maintenance partnership with neighboring communities and numerous grant awards.

  • Infrastructure Improvements

    As Public Works Committee Chair, Steve has been instrumental in advancing the village's infrastructure, including the construction of new alleys, a public works facility, a water tower, water main replacements, street resurfacing, numerous stormwater improvements and thousands of feet of new/repaired sidewalks.

I will continue attracting new businesses and revitalizing key areas of Westmont. This begins by ensuring Westmont is easy to do business with consistently delivering best in class customer service.

Infrastructure: Building for the Future

I am committed to ongoing improvements to our roads, alleys, sidewalks, and public facilities. Sustainable development practices will guide all future infrastructure projects.

Fiscal Responsibility: Managing Our Resources Wisely

I will ensure efficient use of tax dollars and continue securing grants to fund key projects. Transparency and accountability will remain central to our budgeting process.

Community Engagement: Strengthening Our Village Together

I will create more opportunities for resident engagement and ensure all voices are heard in the decision-making process. Expanding Village communication practices are a top priority.
